Responsibility for Equipment

As children progress, they expect to take more responsibility for the equipment that they use. Strategies to encourage this include:

• Place a range of equipment in trays for children to choose from
• Label trays and cupboards with words and digital photographs
• Allocate roles to one person to collect and return equipment (on a rota basis)
• Allocate one person to count out and count back equipment
• Allocate 'clear up' roles before children are allowed to leave or get individuals to inspect work area for cleanliness - they could initial a check list
